Six years in socio-legal work

Kashmir Law Circle is a research, policy, and advocacy organization focused on socio-legal issues, established in 2018. As a non-governmental organization officially registered as a Trust, we collaborate closely with civil society on various interconnected areas, including constitutional and legal awareness, human rights, peace-building, social justice, and sustainable development.

We are one of the pioneering organizations in India leveraging the judicial system to advocate for people’s rights. With a steadfast commitment to driving transformative socio-legal change, we focus on enhancing legal awareness within the Kashmir region. Our mission is deeply rooted in empowering local communities and advocating for justice.

Since its inception, Kashmir Law Circle has expanded its operations across 10 districts in Kashmir and built collaborations in 6 states across India—Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Our team comprises lawyers, paralegals, researchers, NGOs, social movements, academics, students, activists, judges, and individuals committed to social justice. This collaborative network allows us to advance socio-legal rights, address violations, and ensure equitable access to justice for all.

Our work is guided by the principles of progressive constitutionalism, spanning a wide range of interventions:

Providing legal aid to those in need.

Documenting complaints meticulously.

Conducting fact-finding missions.

Filing cases in courts.

Liaising with authorities to advocate for entitlement claims.

Raising awareness about legal rights.

Training young lawyers and paralegals.

We also identify and address violations of civil liberties and act as human rights defenders.

We aim to build a nation where justice, equality, and fraternity thrive through the use of law as a catalyst for social change. By training public interest lawyers, paralegals, and community leaders, we seek to create a system where every individual, regardless of their background, has access to justice and their rights are respected.
